A few years ago I got a phone call at 3:00 o’clock in the morning. My daughter-in-law says, “If you want to see your son alive, you better get down here.” They were in Omaha. We picked up their son, who was going to school. We got to the hospital at noon. He was an alcoholic. She found him on the floor, called the ambulance, and they took him to the hospital. We got down there and there he was, lying in intensive care, out. The doctor was there, and he says, “Are you gonna stay overnight?” I said we plan to. That was Friday. He said, “You better because your son ain’t gonna be alive in the morning.” That’s kind of tough news. We stayed and he’s lying there, out. Nothing. Don’t move. Don’t do nothing. We had the family come, we sang, we prayed. We stayed another night. Well, Sunday was coming. We had to go back because our grandson, his son, has to go back and go to school and work. It comes Sunday noon, and we had to go because it’s six hours’ drive. Before we left, I got right into my son’s face and I said “Son, your mom and dad love you,” and I said, “but Jesus loves you more.” Tears started running down his face. I couldn’t believe it when I said “Jesus love you more.” What? What’s the deal? He never did nothing for two days. He didn’t wiggle, nothing. Well, that touched me and must have touched him some way. He didn’t come to then. We left, and in a couple more days he was discharged and went home. But that really touched me when I saw the power of Jesus at work. He survived and he quit drinking. He doesn’t know the Lord, but he grew up with us at church. He’s changed a lot and yeah, God is working on him.
