Having test-driven prison ministry already, my wife and I spent a month in Haiti the January before seminary graduation. During that time, we lived on a missionary compound, seeking the Lord to discern whether this was our calling. It was an exceedingly challenging and powerful time. One night, I was really asking God for discernment. I didn’t demand a sign, but I made it clear if there was an angel that wasn’t really busy at the moment, I was ready for a message from above.
No angel appeared. But, opening my eyes, I immediately noticed that light shining through the multi-paned window of the room where I was sleeping, created an image of prison bars on the wall. The shadow also held the shape of three crosses. I knew the Lord had spoken. We returned to the States, confident about our next step in ministry.
